Notes from the Workshop: How a Walnut Log Becomes a Table

From cutting to the final finish in 14 weeks. Behind the scenes of a Lorenza table.

Everything begins with the right log. The walnut comes from certified forests and is air-dried in our workshop for at least eight weeks, then kiln-dried to 8% moisture.

Boards are matched by grain direction — that is the secret to a top that looks like a single piece. After gluing comes 48 hours of rest, then hand sanding and edge work.

The final step is three coats of hard wax oil, with 24 hours between each. The result: a surface where you feel the wood when you touch it, resistant to stains and always repairable.
