The Three Layers of Good Lighting

One ceiling light is not enough. How to combine ambient, task and accent lighting.
A well-lit room comes not from one strong source but from several soft sources at different heights. Ambient lighting provides the room’s base light; warm white (2700–3000K) LEDs are the best choice for homes.
Task lighting focuses on spots like a reading nook, kitchen counter or desk. An adjustable floor lamp or table lamp does the job here.
Accent lighting highlights a painting, bookshelf or textured wall. Being able to control the three layers with separate switches or dimmers lets you create the right mood at any hour.
