Solid Wood or MDF? An Honest Comparison

Every material has its place. Where solid wood makes sense and where MDF does — from our craftsmen’s point of view.
Solid wood is unmatched for its natural grain, repairability and a lifespan measured in decades. We prefer solid wood for load-bearing or touched surfaces such as dining table tops, chair frames and headboards.
MDF, on the other hand, is dimensionally very stable: it does not move or crack with humidity changes. That is why MDF outperforms solid wood for wide cabinet doors and lacquered surfaces. The quality difference lies in the density of the MDF and the veneer used.
In short, the question is not "which is better" but "which is right for this piece". At Lorenza we make that decision per product based on function and state it clearly on the product card.
